Jo Reeves

Founder & editor

I started Hobbify because I wanted to learn crochet and couldn't find a trusted voice to cut through the noise. Twenty minutes of searching gave me 47,000 YouTube results, 300 Skillshare classes and three Reddit threads arguing about which hook to buy. I closed the laptop and started again the next evening with a different plan.

Professionally I spent the last decade in editorial work — magazines, brand writing, the occasional guidebook. What I'd never done was sit with a craft long enough to feel properly useless at it, which, it turns out, is the thing that teaches you how to explain it to someone else.

On Hobbify I write the cross-craft pieces — crochet vs knitting, hand sewing vs machine, whether a £100 machine really is enough. I also edit the rest of the team's writing. If a guide feels a bit too polished, I'm the one who probably pushed it there.

First thing they made
A lopsided dishcloth that stopped being square by row four. Still have it. Still not square.
Why they write for Hobbify
Because no one was going to tell you plainly whether to spend £100 or £400 on your first sewing machine.
